General Urology

General Urology at Columbia offers patients state-of-the-art care for virtually all urology needs. Our team consists of prominent urologists and well-trained nurse practitioners with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of common urologic conditions, including:

  • Kidney stones
  • Voiding dysfunction
  • Benign and malignant prostate problems
  • Elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA)
  • Urinary retention
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Conditions causing blood in the urine
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Male infertility

Our physicians are capable of triaging and expediting care for urgent urological conditions. Many members of our team also manage the inpatient acute care urology service at Columbia/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and have subspecialty training in a variety of urology disciplines.

Some common procedures performed by a general urologist include:

  • Cystoscopy
  • Shock wave lithotripsy and laser treatments to break apart kidney stones
  • Prostate biopsies
  • Minimally invasive prostate treatments for difficulty voiding
  • Vasectomy procedures

Our urologists can manage both ambulatory and acute care issues. Most urologic conditions can be diagnosed and treated by our staff. If it is determined that a patient will be best served with a specific subspecialist, our general urology team will help transition the patient and ensure their care is optimized.
