Basic Science Research

The Department of Urology’s physicians and scientists are actively involved in basic science laboratory research that involves all areas of urology. Current studies include investigating:

  • The molecular contexts of tumors with the aims of identifying the tumor’s drug responsiveness, drug efficacy and resistance
  • The development of technologies for model generation, including functional genomics and proteomics approach
  • The coordination of efforts among a research consortium to promote the effective use of genetically engineered mouse models for prevention research
  • Preclinical studies of intravesical therapy for bladder cancer
  • Investigating the mechanisms of metastasis to study cancer malignancy
  • Urothelial development and regeneration
  • The resistance of  prostate cancer
  • Non-muscle invasive transitional bladder cancer
